The 556th film I have seen in theaters…
The Von Erich story is brought to the big screen
Through the 1970’s and 80’s, the Von Erich family was a dominant force in Texas wrestling. As their father, Fritz pushes his sons to be champions, the family is slowly destroyed by pressures from both inside, and outside, the squared circle.
This is a fairly by the numbers biopic of the Von Erich family, specifically Kevin. Zac Efron steps into the lead here and does a pretty good job. His physical transformation is impressive. Jeremy Allen White continues his hot streak as he becomes the tragic figure of the most famous of the family: Kerry “The Texas Tornado”. The rest of the cast did a fine job, but again, it was fairly straightforward. Perhaps my familiarity with their story played a part in my interpretation. As expected, the music was on point. It is a good story, and one worthy of a film adaptation.
