The 560th film I have seen in theaters…
All he wanted to do is tend his bees…
Throughout American history, there have been Beekeepers. Elite operatives with a sacred task: Protect the hive (society). Adam Clay is a retired Beekeeper who is actually tending bees in an old barn owned by a retired teacher. When scammers raid her life savings, leading to her suicide, he goes on a one man crusade to take down the criminals and follow the money to see who is behind it all.
This is nonsense, pure nonsense. The dialogue is idiotic and the performances contained not a shred of nuance. I saw American Fiction the night before, a movie the exact opposite of Beekeeper. Going straight to this movie was a shock to the system. Jason Statham movies are not where you go for deep character development. You go for one thing: Jason Statham beating the hell out of people and cool action scenes. This delivers on that, in spades. The supporting cast was ok. Josh Hutcherson, of Hunger Games, plays the spoiled tech bro behind the scammers. Jeremy Irons plays his security coordinator. Irons is good here, but its obviously drivel. As a Doctor Who fan, It was nice seeing Jemma Redgrave as President Danforth. I particularly enjoyed Taylor James as bad guy henchman Lazarus. Classic “final fight before main boss” villain.
This is not high brow, its pure popcorn. Sometimes you need popcorn, and candy too (of which I indulged).
5/10
