The 564th film I have seen in theaters…

A Cohen Brother gives me the crime comedy I needed

In the year 1999, 2 lesbian friends take a road trip from Pennsylvania to Florida. Unbeknownst to them, the car they are driving is carrying “hot goods” that 2 hitmen are trying to recover. We follow them on their drive as they navigate the situation. Also dildos.

Margaret Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan are our “dolls”, Jaime and Marian. They were both excellent in the parts, with Qualley being the standout. This is the second such movie I’ve seen Qualley in. She was in my favorite movie of 2016: The Nice Guys and as well as Once upon a time in Hollywood. Her mom must be proud. I’m not familiar with Viswanathan’s work but she was an excellent counter point, the “straight” to Qualley’s comedy.

Beanie Feldstein is always welcome. She is Sukie, Jaime’s ex. Smaller role than I was expecting but memorable.

Ah, the villains of the piece. Coleman Domingo is the “Chief”, the boss who sends out the hitmen to find the briefcase. He’s always great- excellent screen presence. C.J. Wilson and Joey Slotnick are the hitmen, Flint and Arliss. Their banter was hilarious.

Matt Damon and Pedro Pascal have glorified cameos as Senator Channel and Santos, the Collector. They were well used here, especially Damon.

Can’t forget Curlie. Bill Camp fucking SHONE as Curlie.

This was a good one. Is it Big Lebowski good? No, but its good. The Cohen voice comes through fairly strong here and it always lands for me. When I realized what the Macguffin of the plot was – holt shit. lol. Hilarious.
