The 579th film I have seen in theaters…

The universe is dying! Deadpool must travel the multiverse to find a Wolverine, as his reality’s version is dead. Along the way he meets all sorts of new friends, and enemies. A good time is had by all.

I mean, come on. Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds. They carry the movie well. The surprise cameos do add a lot to the proceedings though.
So, was this any good?
Yeah, it was good. Was it great? debatable. It was 2 hours of Deadpool fucking with Wolverine. That alone is worth the price of the ticket. The comedy was good, the villain ok, the violence superb. Looking back on this series, it feels like it’s been building up to this moment for a long time. After their terrible first go-round in Origins, it was good to see them finally get back together for a decent film.
This was, in every possible way, a love letter/goodbye to the Fox Marvel Universe. While some of these characters, and actors, will return for the next Avengers cycle, there was a definite sense that this was the swan song for the old guard. Maybe I am wrong, we’ll see.
