The 598th film I have seen in theaters…
Spoilers below
A group of broken “heroes” come together to forge a new team! Secondary characters from Black Widow, Captain America and Ant Man get a moment to shine, and face some hard truths as the mysterious “Bob” is introduced.
After a lackluster Captain America Movie, I was somewhat hesitant to see this one. The recent Marvel offerings have been more bust than boom for me, but I had a sliver of hope that Thunderbolts would rise to the occasion. I am happy to state that they did.
I can’t fault a single actor in the piece. All were fantastic and played well off of each other. Newcomer Lewis Pullman was quite effective as “Bob”. Rather than a “villain of the week” format, this is a film about a group of misfits coming together to fight the “real enemy”- their feelings. Yeah, seriously. This film closes out Phase 5 of the MCU and the middle chapter of the “Multiverse Saga”. Like Phase 4, it was a mixed bag. Phase 4 reached a high in No Way Home while 5 was slightly better (Guardians 3, and Deadpool 3 being in the mix. This one trends closer to Deadpool in quality, a good thing. I have a suspicion Phase 6 will start with a bang.
7/10
