The 599th film I have seen in theaters…
Spoilers below
Eve is a Ballerina/Assassin for the Ruska Roma (Russian Gypsy clan of assassins). She discovers that her father was murdered by a rival assassin cult and goes out seeking vengeance.
This is a proper John Wick movie. It starts off a tad slow, but quickly gets up to speed as Eve fights her way to the Cultists. Ana De Armas gives a good performance as our lead. I hope this leads to more opportunities for her. Keanu returns as Wick, McShane as Winston, Anjelica Huston as The Director- leader of the Ballerinas, and Lance Reddick who gives his final performance as Charon. All are well established and do well. I was pleasantly surprised at how much Wick was in this. I figured it was just a one off cameo.
The new players joining us are Norman Reedus as Daniel, an assassin trying to save his daughter, and Gabriel Byrne as “The Chancellor” leader of the cult of assassins. Byrne is our main villain this time around.
While this movie treads familiar territory to fans of John Wick, it did give me something I’d never seen before: a flame thrower shootout. Yes, 2 people with flame throwers having an old west style shoot-em-up. Wonderful.
6/10
