The 534th film I have seen in theaters…

As the pandemic rages, Benoit Blanc, gentleman detective, is bored out of his mind. When a literal mystery box finds its way to his doorstep he can’t help but jump at the chance to solve a mystery. Off he goes to an island in Greece with a group of houseguests for a weekend of intrigue and murder.

Excellent. I could watch 30 Benoit Blanc movies. Like Knives Out, the movie has a powerhouse of a cast including Edward Norton as the tech genius, Janelle Monae as the partner he screwed over and several other old friends played by Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr, Kate Hudson, and Dave Bautista. Cameos galore, and a delightful ending make this one of my favorite movies of 2022. As a fan of the old film “The Last of Sheila”, I cannot help but see comparisons here. Rian Johnson has mentioned that film as a major inspiration for this, and I love it. 9/10.
