Oscar Watch 2017: Part One
Here we are! The Nominations for the Academy Awards have been announced and now we begin reviewing the films! I have acquired tickets for a 2 Saturday marathon, starting next week, where I will see ALL of the Best picture nominees in a movie theater- A first! This leaves me free to chase down as many of the nominees in the other categories that I can! Last year I would cover 2-3 movies per post, but I thought I would start with everything I’ve seen up to this point:
Captain Fantastic, Kubo and the Two Strings, Zootopia, O.J.: Made in America, The 13th, Florence Foster Jenkins, The Lobster, Rogue One, Doctor Strange, Fantastic Beasts and where to find them, Arrival, and Hidden Figures.
Oscar Nominations 2017!
The time is here! The Oscars are a month away and the nominees have been listed. I am happy to say that the “blacklisting” of the Oscars has ended with several high profile films, with black actors and subjects, have broken through. As we did in 2016, I will be making a point of reviewing as many Oscar nominated films as I can in 4 weeks. These reviews tend to be far shorter than my normal “skinny’s”. Quite a few of these are still in Cinemas so there is a good chance they get the full review in my official count. Of the 9 best picture nominees, I have seen 2. Its going to be a busy month! Oscar Sundays will be replacing the “Chillflix” column for this period. Now, lets see the nominees!

A look ahead: Version 2.0
A little over a month ago, I commented on the stupendous turd-scicle that 2016 has been. I put together a list of films that I hoped to see, including several at a film marathon. Well, the marathon came and went. I did not attend. Dammit. Where does that leave us? In a surprisingly hopeful position….I hope.
